THE NETARI.FI

The Netari.fi project, launched in 2004, concentrates on national multidisciplinary youth work on the Internet. The aim of the project is to get youth work personnel in contact with young people spending time on the net. The activities are coordinated by the Youth Department of the City of Helsinki with the support of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

In 2009, the Netari.fi project was awarded the Finnish Quality Innovation of the Year prize in the public sector category. The competition is a part of the Finnish Quality Prize activities. In the competition, the activities of the candidates are evaluated on the basis of how customer-centric, productive, innovative, applicable and educational they are.

Activity palette

Netari carries out regular and real time youth work on the net.

The Netari chats take place in four network communities where a lot of young people meet: Habbo Hotel, IRC-Galleria, Facebook and Demi.fi. The chats give young people the chance to chat with each other as well as with youth workers. In addition, public health nurses, police officers and social work specialists can be reached through these chat rooms.

Netari-TV is a programme combining live net TV and chatting. The weekly broadcasts deal with topical themes in young people’s lives. Through the chat room, young people can take part in the live broadcast and influence its content.

Netari organises assistant instructor activities for those young people who wish to participate in the planning and execution of Netari activities. In their role of assistant instructor, young people will organise, for instance, theme evenings, events, meets and camps with the help of youth workers.
