what is netari?

Save the Children’s online youth center, Netari, is a nationwide youth center on the internet. Here, you can spend time, meet other young people, and chat with youth workers and other trusted adults. All young people are welcome to this youth center! Please make sure to read the rules before joining the conversations.

Netari has been in operation since 2004. All young people, from anywhere, are welcome to Netari. Netari operates online, where young people are: on Discord, Twitch, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram. Netari is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Check the opening hours and guidelines for Netari’s different chats on their own pages! You can access each chat’s page through the Netari.fi homepage.

In netari you can:

netari’s rules and safe space principles

Netari’s rules are based on the principles of a safe space. In short, here are Netari’s safe space principles, which we also follow on social media (in finnish)(e.g., TikTok lives):

These rules are followed in Netari’s group services, such as on Twitch, Discord, and Netari-TV. In Netari’s one-on-one services, like WhatsApp, Netari chat, and with your Digifriend, you can chat safely with an adult in private.

Netari is more enjoyable when everyone follows the common rules. If you encounter any issues or notice behavior that goes against the rules, come and talk to a Netari mentor about it!

rules

Behave appropriately. Bullying, harassment, and aggressive language are not allowed. Swearing, flooding, or trolling are also not part of Netari. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed in Netari, including verbal warnings and, if necessary, putting users on a timeout.

Do not share personal information with strangers or give out your own or others’ personal details or other sensitive information in Netari’s group chats. Netari mentors are bound by confidentiality, so in one-on-one conversations, you can also share personal matters if you wish. However, in Netari, you can also chat with a youth worker completely anonymously, and you do not have to share details about yourself if you do not want to.

Think carefully about what you share in group discussions. Private matters and opinions can make others feel uncomfortable. This includes, for example, sharp religious or political opinions. You are allowed to express your opinions respectfully, but spreading any ideology, political stance, or misinformation is not allowed in Netari. Do not post or share inappropriate, defamatory, offensive, obscene, or illegal material or information in Netari.

Netari is a hate speech-free online space. Racist or otherwise discriminatory language is not allowed in Netari. Racist or inappropriate usernames, or using your real name as a username, are not permitted. Netari always addresses bullying, hate speech, discrimination, and racism. If you encounter such behavior in Netari, immediately contact a Netari mentor.

Zero tolerance for harassment. Every person has the right to sexual self-determination and protection from abuse, including online. Do not hesitate to say NO. Always report private sexual propositions to a Netari mentor and/or admin. Feel free to bring up any issues in a one-on-one Netari chat so they can be addressed and resolved appropriately.
